our background
The Orphan Sponsorship Program is a sub-division of the Global Trust Society (GTS), an organization founded by students of the University of Calgary several years ago. We serve as a link between global orphan sponsorship programs such as ICNA, HCI, and IRFAN, allowing people in our city to sponsor orphans in developing countries around the world. Our noble initiative embodies the role of Islam in global humanitarian issues, and what it has the potential of becoming.
Over the years, the OSP has grown to become a community-wide program with volunteers organizing numerous events. Currently, we have over 100 orphans sponsored. Additionally, our events have raised much needed funds to help with other initiatives, such as building schools in impoverished areas. Our various events have also helped us raise awareness about the current devastating state of orphans across the world, and raised funds for various other programs in lands ravished by war, corruption, poverty, and famine.

We strive to raise awareness and funds for the state of orphans living lives of destitution and hardship. In today’s world, out of the 143 million children in developing nations, 1 in every 13 are orphaned. These children are often from countries ravaged by war, corruption, disease, and economic disparity. We feel it is our duty as Muslims to attempt to abolish the cruel cycle of poverty and abuse that continues in our world.
We believe one of the keys to our success is our 100 % donation policy. Every penny donated goes directly to the organizations sponsoring the orphans. The OSP is structured to run without any administrative costs whatsoever – we work based on a ‘penny-in-penny-out’ system which ensures that every penny you donate for the sake of Allah is sent out directly to one of out esteemed affiliate organizations.
And they feed you for the love of Allah, the poor, the orphan, and the captive. (Saying) “We feed you for the sake of Allah alone; no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks.”

It was the work of a few, select, hardworking individuals that made this initiative even possible, and we call on other like-minded individuals to aid us in our fight to eliminate global poverty and suffering. You can be a part of this battle by either making a donation, sponsoring an orphan yourself, or volunteering your time to aid our cause.
